Skulduggery Pleasant-The Faceless Ones by Derek Landy
Skulduggery Pleasant and Valkyrie Cain are on the tail of a string of murders. Each victim a Teleporter and each one murdered in the same way, a single knife in the back. However Teleporter’s are renowned for being over cautious, so the murderer had to be someone they’d trusted, otherwise they’d just poof away at the slightest hint of trouble and the murderer would be none the wiser. Wouldn’t they? That’s why murder as unusual as this would stick in someones head, even if it did occur 50 odd years ago and that person’s head also happened to be hollow, litterally (Skulduggery, cough, cough!)!
Following on from book two, after the duo’s accusations towards The Grand Mage about where they felt his loyalties truly lay, Skulduggery and Valkyrie are no longer a part of The Sanctuary. Their replacement, Detective Remus Crux who, desperate to please The Grand Mage, will stop at nothing to solve this very case. Yet Skulduggery and Valkyrie are still ahead, despite the lack of resources at their disposal. But how far is Crux willing to go to prove himself better than the Skeleton Detective?
As the clues begin to point to the rise of the very beings (if they can even be called that) Skulduggery and Valkyrie thought they’d finally destroyed. If the path made clear by the clues is correct, the end of the world seems certain if unavoidable but, will Skullduggery and Valkyrie still find a way to prevail?
Teen Rating: . A brilliant, if not perfect concoction of comedy, action and of course, magic! I don’t think I can stress this enough, if you haven’t started reading this series yet, (regardless of your age) its not to late to start now, its simply amazing. 4/5 12+
