Maximum Security (Cherub Series) by Robert Muchamore
Jane Oxford has been under the F.B.I.’s radar for years and is one of the most wanted criminals in the United States. Oxford is a cunning international arms dealer; she has evaded capture for decades and always manages to keep her location secret. She had always been an American problem until she stole 35 PGSLM (Precision Guided Shoulder Launched Missile) from the British Army. After numerous attempts made by the F.B.I. to locate the enigma that is Jane Oxford, she has remained uncatchable. She always takes every precaution possible to avoid being followed or tracked; which has resulted in her son Curtis Oxford having a very unstable life.
The inconsistent life that Curtis Oxford and his mother led resulted in him becoming severely depressed and emotionally unstable. This ultimately led to him committing murder three times. He was arrested and incarcerated in a youth prison.
A chance to capture Jane Oxford arrives; and it involves Cherub. The plan is as follows: Cherub Agents go undercover into Curtis’ youth prison. They breakout of the prison and bring Curtis with them. Hopefully Curtis will lead them right to his mother, Jane Oxford. James, his sister Lauren (having just become a Cherub Agent) and Dave, a highly respected Agent take on the mission to try and bring down Jane Oxford.
TEEN RATING: Maximum Security is a typical ‘kid-agent’ book. Although the plot idea is good, I feel that the story itself is missing something critical. The ending felt very abrupt and anti-climactic. It started well but slowly worsened and lacked any good plot twist. 15+ 3/5
