Hunger by Michael Grant.
(Part of The Gone Series)
Since the catastrophe of the disappearance of the Adults, some kids have had to grow up, and care for what tattered remains of the old world’s legacy a.k.a The FAYZ ( Fallout Alley Youth Zone) is left, where as others have left it to others to do the caring and growing up, for them. It is only a faze after all, right? well either way, Sam Temple is taking no chances whether the adults will someday somehow poof back into existence or it turns out it was all an elaborate nightmare of his or for that matter, all the kids. Sure who was to say what was and wasn’t normal now anyways?!?! Hunger is now Sam’s greatest enemy, as it’s grasp has gripped the landscape and none have escaped it’s reach not even Caine nor the dreaded darkness, both of which have plans ripe to launch. Hunger is not the only problem, new species such as the Zekes could spell disaster for farming as a means for survival. The seemingly less harmful of the two, Caine’s plan to cut of the electricity to perdido beach via the Nuclear reactor could prove fatal, as many don’t realise how reliant they are upon it, but could Caine’s plan have an alternative motive even he’s not aware of one that could possibly involve the darkness and it’s hold on Caine?
Teen Rating: The problems keep slowly adding up, will they be able to topple them or will they drown in the process. 4/5 13+
