Barefoot Runner by Paul Rambali.
The life of Marathon Champion Abebe Bikila. Abebe Bikila was the first African to win a Gold medal in the Olympics. When he won the medal, it was in Rome(1960) and he ran barefoot, because the Adidas store didn’t have his shoe size in stock. The book leads us on the frighting, action packed life of Abebe. It shows us the length some people have to go to to get something others take for granted. Abebe is Ethiopian. At this time Ethiopia is a Monarchy, ruled by it’s last emperor, Haile Selassie. The book covers not only Abebe’s view point, but his Swedish coach as well. The book shows us the suffering and glory of ethiopia and how hard some people have it, compared to others.
