The way of Kings-part one by Brandon Sanderson
(The first book in The Stormlight Archives.)
The way of kings is set in an almost totally different world to ours. The book follows a few different people’s view points and perspectives, looking at ‘The War’ from almost every angle. ‘The War’ in question is the main focus in this book, going back to it’s origins and who started it, ect. The area where the book largely takes place is called ‘Alethkar‘. The king of Alethkar was King Gavilar, Gavier and his brother had united all of Alethkar, conquering all in their path and making it one single nation goverened by many lesser princes. After doing so on a scouting mission a new species of ‘Parshendi’ are discovered (the Parshendi being the slaves of human kind). This is where it gets confusing, for one reason or another the ‘Parshendi’ assassinate the king. The Kingdom effectively ruled seperately now in each of it’s factions, pledges revenge and viciously attacks the Parshendi’s home. This is ‘The War’ which The Way Of Kings follows, this is ‘The War’ to end all wars. Now where have you heard that before? And how did that turn out? Who will win and at what cost?
Teen Rating: A seriously complex book. Quite similar to Eragon or The Lord of the Rings, but even more gripping. 5/5 . 14+ .
