Lord Of The Flies By William Golding.
The boys(as they are an all boys school) are on a school tour over seas, when their plane’s wing mysteriously catches fire and they crash badly on a tropical island located more or less in the middle of nowhere. At first the boys are literally running around crazy, doing as they please, in their separate friend groups or cliches, separate from every other group. When an unexpected twelve year old boy named Ralph finds a strange shell ( with according to Piggy, ‘his friend’, is called a conch) on the beach. He suddenly gets a ‘brilliant’ brain wave, why not use the conch to call the others and unite them all to stop all this messing about, after all how were they to survive without food, and a system or code to live by and govern them?
Teen Rating: An absolut classic. It’s a book with the effect of opening our minds to what we could become when put under certain sercumstances and reminds us just how little separates us from our ‘primal like’ selves. 4/5 12+
